3 Day Wilderness Canoe and Sauna Retreat
Join us for a guided 3 day wilderness canoe and sauna retreat with great food and great people out in the middle of the beautiful Menominee River!?
We’re going to paddle to an island in the middle of a river and build a sauna for the weekend. Then we relax while eating fantastic food and enjoying cool fall temps and nature at it’s best! There is a sandy beach and the water is shallow for those who want to take a cold dip in traditional sauna fashion. Oh, and there could be snow which makes it even more awesome!
We will meet up at 10am Friday morning at True North Outpost in Norway Michigan. Gear will be checked and we will pack a lunch to enjoy during the paddle. My friends at True North will help shuttle everyone to the put in and we’ll head down the Menominee river for about 4 hours. Along the way, we’ll watch for wildlife and check out an old trapper cabin hidden deep in the woods. From there we continue down river. There is one short portage around a small rapid by the island. We will take the canoes out of the river and carry them a couple hundred feet to the bottom of the rapids. From there, it’s just 5 minutes to the site where we’ll set up a large sauna tent and wood burning stove just above a sandy beach. This retreat is all inclusive. You just need clothing and personal camping items (rental equipment available if needed). You can even opt to kayak if you like.
We can accommodate most dietary restrictions but a typical menu may include foods like steak, pasta, eggs, french toast, fresh fruit, cobbler etc)
Difficulty: This is a beginner level paddle trip. Participants should be comfortable in and around water. PFDs are required at all times while in the canoes. The river section is flat with one or two splashes. Kayaks are available to rent separately if you prefer. A regular 3 season camping tent will be sufficient for this trip. If the weather takes a turn for the extreme cold, we will use both the sauna tent and an additional canvas tent as group tents for sleeping. This will be determined 1 week from the trip date.
