3 Day Wilderness Snowshoe Trip (Beginner+)

January 24, 2020 - January 26, 2020

If you dream of snowshoeing in the backcountry, having everything you need to live comfortably in the winter wilderness, and splitting wood for your stove heated canvas tent at night, this trip might be just for you.

This 3 day 2 night trip will focus on traditional back country travel and winter skills in deep snow conditions. What does traditional mean? Instead of snowmobiles and log cabins, we will snowshoe towing gear in sleds and toboggans over frozen lakes and set up a winter camp. At night we will sleep warm in stove heated canvas tents. During the day, we’ll have time to snowshoe miles of trails, work on winter skills such as ax and saw use, or set a few tip ups for fishing. All group meals are provided. (If you have special dietary restrictions, please let us know well in advance)

Friday: After an overview of the gear and route, our hike to the campsite will be roughly 2 hours over frozen lakes and short portage trails. The pace will be relaxed. We will set up camp and have dinner.

Saturday will be dedicated to working on skills such as:
-Stove use
-Ax and Saw
-Knots for the back country
-Packing sleds and toboggans
-Winter cooking and baking
-Winter survival skills
and more…

Sunday consists of morning breakfast and breaking camp. Our hike out will be roughly 1 hour.

Sleeping will be done in cozy canvas tents heated by a wood stove. A gear list will be sent out to everyone upon registration. Participants should have their own personal gear prior to the trip. We also have cold weather gear available for rent including -20 sleeping bags, pads, snowshoes, and more.

Level of Difficulty:  Moderate: This trip requires pulling a sled or toboggan in deep snow using snowshoes or cross country skis. Be prepared to spend full days outside in any weather.  Participants should have a good understanding of what type of clothing, footwear, and other gear is appropriate for winter camping. A gear list specific for this trip will be provided to all participants
