7 Day Boundary Water Canoe Trip – Guided and all Inclusive (Easy)
Only 6 spots available.
This trip will take place out of Ely MN but the exact meeting location and other details will be sent to you upon registration along with other important documents.
Join NOW Outdoors for a paddle through the vast Boundary Waters Canoe Area in northern Minnesota. This will be an epic trip with incredible scenery including ancient pictographs. Local wildlife include moose, otter, beaver, wolves, eagles, and more.
Plan to drive up Wednesday July 15th and meet up at the designated lodge around 5pm. We will stay the first night at a beautiful cabin and go over gear and the finer details of our route. In the morning, we will head on down to the put in. There is a local shop that can provide any gear or last minute items such as snacks, camping/fishing gear, batteries, etc.
This is a loop trip with 4 paddle days and 2 layover days (the itinerary may change due to weather or group interest. We will paddle and portage well over 40 miles in remote wilderness. There will be plenty of time to kick back and relax too! If you plan to fish, we will be in some prime waters for walleye, lake trout, northern pike and bass. There are lots of places to explore as well such as waterfalls, artifacts from the old logging days, and ancient native american pictographs (rock paintings)
Menu items during the trip include french toast with bacon and eggs, Tuna salad wraps, shepherds pie, BBQ pork spaghetti, fresh baked cookies or apple crisp. There will be juice and coffee in the morning and happy hour in the afternoon! Of course we can eat as much fish as we like!
Total Miles: 30+
Number of portages: 12
Total portage distance: 792 rods (2.4 miles)
Longest single portage: 160 rods (2,560 feet)
This trip is not for first time campers or paddlers. You should be very comfortable in a canoe and in the water. You should be able to provide sufficient clothing and personal gear as per the gear list. Everyone will be expected to help each other out when it comes to portaging gear and our lightweight canoes between waterways. Expect to carry as much as 50 to 60 pounds for very short distances on portage trails. The longest portage of the entire trip is 2,500 feet between our cars and the actual put in spot for our trip. The shortest portages are just a couple yards. The pace will be relaxed at times and challenging at others. Expect to paddle several hours on paddle days and portage over land when necessary. We plan to have a couple “zero travel days” during the week to relax, hike, swim, fish, etc.
