7 Day Boundary Waters Snowshoe Expedition – All-Inclusive
January 23, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - January 29, 2022 @ 11:00 am$1220
In the spirit of snow walkers and arctic explorers from the past, this is a real high-adventure expedition for anyone who absolutely loves the cold.
Join us for a week-long snowshoeing expedition through the vast Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) in northern Minnesota. We travel by snowshoe and toboggan during the day and sleep in large canvas “hot tents” at night. We warm the tent, cook meals, and dry clothes with a wood burning stove. Even if the temperature drops to -40F outside, we can be comfortable with light layers in the tent. Local wildlife includes moose, otter, wolves, beavers, eagles, lynx, and more.
Our winter expeditions are fun, challenging and help you hone your skills for extended travel in extreme cold and deep snow conditions, including:
• Dressing appropriately for conditions
• Maintaining proper hydration
• Selecting, harvesting, and processing firewood
• Using snowshoes
• Packing toboggans
• Axe and saw use
• Ice chisel use
• Winter cooking and baking
• Winter fire building and stove use
• Ice safety
• Winter survival skills
Drive up Sunday, January 23rd and meet at the designated lodge around 3 pm (you can arrive Saturday night for an additional lodging cost). We will bunk that night indoors and go over gear. In the morning Jan 24th, we head to the put-in to start our journey!
This is a loop trip with 5 travel days and 1 layover day (itinerary may change due to weather or other variables). We will travel roughly 25 miles in total. If you plan to fish, we will be in some prime waters for walleye, lake trout, northern pike and bass. There are lots of places to explore such as waterfalls, artifacts from the old logging days, and ancient Native American pictographs. We will hike out Saturday January 29th and pack up. You can head home or spend the rest of the day relaxing and stay at a local lodge.
All meals and snacks on trail are included. We will accommodate special diets as best we can.
Total Miles: 25
