Winter Beginner Overnight and Skill Building (Includes Meals)

With temperatures dropping once again, it’s time to pack away the bug spray and get your winter gear dialed in. This trip is perfect for beginners and intermediate winter camping enthusiasts. We’ll focus on cold weather skill building and help you gain the knowledge and experience needed to camp comfortably in winter. You wont freeze guaranteed!
Arrive at 10am Saturday and hike down to the site. We will be camping <5 minutes from our vehicles on 40 private acres at our NOW Outdoors camp where we teach wilderness first aid certifications and survival courses in warmer months. Plan to set up by noon. Saturday lunch is on your own but Saturday dinner through breakfast Sunday will be provided. Potable water will also be provided.
We can help you get set up and extra gear is available if you need it such as sleeping bags, pads, or even tents, we have you covered. Limited gear is available from our gear closet on a first come first serve basis. Throughout the day between noon and 4pm, various winter topics and skills will be presented including:
• Fire making (winter specific)
• Ax and saw use
• Winter first aid skills
• Winter tents and hammocks
• Canvas tents and wood stoves
• Camp cooking
• Snowshoes Modern vs Traditional
***Canvas tents outfitted with a wood stove are available for rent that sleep 3+ each. $80 for the night.

Nick Gordon, Wilderness EMT, is owner and lead instructor for NOW Outdoors LLC. He is a very experienced winter trekker and guide who has traveled hundred of miles by snowshoe and camped in the harshest winter conditions both here in the midwest and overseas. He teaches more than a dozen wilderness adventure courses for UW-Milwaukee and teaches for the SOLO School of Wilderness Medicine. Since 2009, Nick has been leading wilderness adventure, medicine, and survival courses throughout the Midwest and abroad including Nepal, Canada, Peru, and deep in the Amazon Jungle.
